Nber Working Paper Series the Effects of Poor Neonatal Health on Children's Cognitive Development

چکیده
We make use of a new data resource, merged birth and school records for all children born in Florida from 1992 to 2002, to study the effects of birth weight on cognitive development from kindergarten through schooling. Using twin fixed effects models, we find that the effects of birth weight on cognitive development are essentially constant through the school career; that these effects are very similar across a wide range of family backgrounds; and that they are invariant to measures of school quality. We conclude that the effects of poor neonatal health on adult outcomes are therefore set very early. David N. NBER WORKING PAPER SERIES THE INCOME GRADIENT IN CHILDREN'S HEALTH: A COMMENT ON CURRIE, SHIELDS AND WHEATLEY PRICE Anne Case
This paper reexamines differences found between income gradients in American and English children's health, in results originally published by Case, Lubotsky and Paxson (2002) for the US, and by Currie, Shields and Wheatley Price (2007) for England. We find that, when the English sample is expanded by adding three years of data, and is compared to American data from the same time period, the in...

Using singletons as well as twin and sibling fixed effects models, we find that the effects of early health on cognitive development are essentially constant through the school career; that these effects...
متن کاملNber Working Paper Series the Asset Cost of Poor Health
This paper examines the correlation between poor health and asset accumulation for households in the first nine waves of the Health and Retirement Survey. Rather than enumerating the specific costs of poor health, such as out of pocket medical expenses or lost earnings, we estimate how the evolution of household assets is related to poor health. We construct a simple measure of health status ba...

Background: Thrombocytopenia (TTP) is one of the most common neonatal hematological disorders.
